Position Summary: Weissman / Dancewear Solutions is a national Recital Costume/Dancewear catalog/web retailer and manufacturer that is experiencing rapid growth. The Patternmaker must have a strong understanding of fabrics, garment engineering, and product development as well as an understanding of how patternmaking not only supports but affects this process. They must be able to maintain composure and accuracy under pressure to meet calendar deadlines and require a strong attention to detail, problem-solving & communication skills while being organized, accurate, and articulate. Additionally he or she must be change agile and work well under pressure, display a thorough understanding/comfort with flat patternmaking and a strong proficiency in patternmaking software. This position will develop patterns, actively engage in pattern corrections and grading while mentoring Assistant/Associate Patternmakers.
Responsibilities: Work in a mentoring & training relationship with Assistant and/or Associate Patternmakers. Reviewing their initial patterns, pattern corrections and actively working with Technical Design during fit sessions to further the mentees understanding of pattern corrections. Work closely with the mentee to teach and/or help with grading corrections ensuring they adhere to Weisman’s standards.
Track daily work flow in adherence to development and production schedules while maintaining internal tracking tasks allowing for easily accessible information.
Support all cross functional partners in Technical Design, Design, Sourcing, Product Development, Merchandising, Purchasing, Quality Assurance, Distribution and Customer Service.
Attend Technical Design handovers, partnering with Technical Design and Design to ensure all pattern and fit details are communicated clearly.
Create Initial Pattern in the requested base or photo sample size. This includes applying an initial grade to the pattern so that the requested sample fits to standard. Must use creativity, flexibility, adaptability and initiative to assist in doing what is best for the silhouette in order to provide best fit and best fabric yield, while maintaining design intent.
Actively attend and participate in development fit sessions (iterations 1-3). Reviewing current pattern and pattern references with Technical Design and Design as needed and making minor adjustments to illustrate the effects different revisions will have on the pattern.
Upon adoption, apply grade so all ordered sizes can be produced. This includes creating multiple size ranges, grading the opposite model to proposed specs,hand grading remaining components as needed, thoroughly checking all specs in relation to the pattern and relaying needed updates to the Technical Designer to ensure the pattern and technical specs match.
Actively review carryover style patterns ensuring they fall into, or very closely to current standards, updating as necessary and confirming/communicating those changes to the Technical Designer.
Foster open communication and team environment with all business partners; receiving and giving feedback in a professional manner.
This role will be responsible for special projects and partner with the Senior Patternmaker(s) and Pattern Manager in maintaining the pattern block library.
Financial: Develop product that consistently meets margin goals; partnering with Technical Design to cost engineer styles as needed to hit seasonal target margin.
Timelines: Tracks personal workflow through the development process ensuring styles hit all development deadlines.
Accuracy: Develop patterns in accordance with Weissman Fit & Block standards ensuring accurate approvals and keeping customer returns to a minimum.
BS/BA Fashion Design & Product Development or relevant field.
5+ years' patternmaking experience or Apparel Industry experience.
Strong communication skills including written, verbal and comprehension.
Flat patternmaking and draping experience.
Strong working knowledge of Patternmaking software, preferably Lectra (Modaris).
Good understanding of the product development process.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Apps.
