Reports to: Vice President of Merchandising

Position Summary: Weissman / Dancewear Solutions is a national Recital & Competition Dancewear catalog/web retailer and manufacturer that is experiencing rapid growth. The Merchandising Manager position is responsible for Leading, developing and executing Financial Strategic Plans with strong and innovative product strategies that ensure the continued growth of the Performance Costume or Dancewear business.


trategic Planning: Focuses consistently on the fiscal goals delivering the plan and proactively making adjustments to do so. Develop and maintain long term vision and business plan to grow company.

Product Strategy: Drive innovative and big picture product strategies to create unique and leading assortment plans. Capitalize on big ideas and trends.

Business analytics: Consistently delivers sales performance by analyzing sales and assortment along with competitors’ assortments, pricing and catalog/web presentations. Use analysis to recommend with confidence new business strategies to the Leadership Team.

Product Selection, Pricing and Placement: Approves assortment, colors, sizing, and pricing that are consistent with the Weissman brands and based on financial history, customer votes, competitive landscape, emerging trends, business strategy, and budgeted goals. Communicates and executes product strategy to Cross Functional Leaders and Leadership Team.

Market Knowledge: Understanding of market trends and landscape to influence new product strategies and/or business opportunities.

Training and Development of Merchandising Team Members: Consistently provides and demonstrates Leadership along with development feedback and IDP plans to grow the team for internal promotions or advancement.

Executes and Presents to the Leadership Team: Executes and presents product strategies and financial plans to meet corporate goals, including calendar management. Leveraging knowledge across the organization.

Corporate Process Enhancement: Consistently works cross functionally with leaders to improve processes and develop new processes as the company evolves.

Partners with Director of Merchandising: Partners with the Director of Merchandising on financial plans and product initiatives.

Represents Director of Merchandising: Represents Director of Merchandising in leadership meetings as needed.

Expected Outcomes: Financial: Consistently meets or exceeds planned sales and margin goals. Identify and quantify business strategies that align with the Weissman Brand and Customer.

Timelines: Meet all internal merchandising, product, purchasing and marketing deadlines as planned. Identifies opportunities to enhance cross-functional calendars.

Leadership: Successful execution of innovative big product ideas, business opportunities and process efficiencies by confidently selling these ideas/processes internally while listening to and incorporating appropriate suggestions of management, cross functional peers and subordinates.

Training and Development: Build a team that earns trust and respect of their knowledge and financial metrics driving financial goals. Developing a team to operate independently when needed. Consistently demonstrate effective leadership skills.


Bachelor’s degree or equivalent

12 to 15+ years buying, product development (product concept to delivery to consumer) and merchandising experience

Past Dance Experience or knowledge is a benefit

Proven success in managing and developing a new business

Strong analytical skills, understanding of financial metrics and understanding of business development

Highly developed communication and presentation skills; ability to lead and influence Leadership team

Demonstrated ability to work effectively cross-functionally and to execute ideas internally

Demonstrates strong leadership skills and Team development

Strong independent decision making and problem solving skills

Organized and Accountable

Experience traveling to foreign countries as well as domestic travel
