Job Description: Patternmaking Internship: Summer 2023

Our Weissman Summer Internship is a 10 week program based in our St. Louis office. Participants of our intern program will gain valuable hands-on experience to include, but not limited to, industry training, cross-functional departmental exposure, and a final project presentation at the end of the summer.

Dates: May 29th, 2023 - August 4th, 2023 (10 Weeks, Paid Internship)

Position Summary: Weissman Intern is responsible for providing administrative assistance and organizational support to the corresponding department. Interns are assigned a mentor within the department to collaborate with throughout the program. Interns have a primary focus on completing a project with partners from cross-functional teams. At the end of the summer, the final project will be presented to the leadership team. After successful completion of the internship, there is an opportunity to become eligible for full-time employment.

Patternmaking Intern Responsibilities:

Learn Modaris: Work diligently towards learning the basics of the digital patternmaking program Modaris. Learn how to create an initial pattern, and implement revisions as requested by the Technical Designer, all while maintaining a balanced and production friendly garment.

Build Cross Functional Partnerships: Work to build and foster cross functional partnerships through attending style handover meetings, and fit sessions with Design and Technical Design partners.

Internship Project: Work to support and contribute to the internship project; seeing multiple designs through the entire process from conception to completion.

Support workload of Pattern team: Use your creativity, problem solving skills, and knowledge of patternmaking to both create initials and work on pattern revisions for multiple styles throughout the summer. Utilize all available assets provided to you to support workflow including but not limited to: technical specifications, illustrations, digital photos, technical sketches, and BOM’s.

Accountability: Adhere to and work towards meeting all deadlines. Maintain accountability for work done. Adhere to development and production schedules.

Skills & Expertise:

  • Driven : Has an interest in, and possesses the drive to learn Modaris (Lectra patternmaking software).

  • Interest in Patternmaking: Displays and has an interest in creating and perfecting patterns from initial pattern to revisions.

  • Knowledge of Fabric: Basic understanding of fabric qualities, types of various knits & wovens.

  • Detail Oriented: Displays high organizational skills in order to balance multiple projects. Possesses meticulous attention to detail.

  • Team Player: Works well in a collaborative team environment where diverse ideas and points of view add value. An active contributor amongst team members.

  • Flexibility: Ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment. Flexible and adaptable to change; possess a strong work ethic as well as the ability to multitask, problem solve, and collaborate.

  • Excellent Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills. Able to communicate with colleagues with respectful behavior and a positive attitude.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a college or university; Sophomore year or above.

  • Working towards a degree in Fashion Design/Textile/Apparel Management or Product Development or a related field.

  • Exposure to a digital patternmaking software is a plus (Modaris, Gerber, Optitex, etc)

  • Basic understanding & comfort with flat patternmaking, fit and pattern manipulation.

  • Preferable to have had coursework in flat patternmaking and/or draping

  • Ability to relocate to St. Louis, Missouri for the summer.

  • Available to participate in our full-time internship program from the end of May/June to August 2023. Work Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30/5pm.

  • Eligible to work in the US without restrictions.
