Reports to: VP of Design and Senior Designer
Weissman / Dancewear Solutions is a national Recital Costume/Dancewear catalog/web retailer and manufacturer, looking for a candidate who thrives in a fast paced, highly creative environment. Candidates should be highly creative out of the box thinkers with the ability to lead teams and influence. The Graphic Designer is responsible for the creation and implementation of original artwork that is trend relevant and brand appropriate for the Weissman customer. This individual protects the integrity of the brand by delivering product that fulfills the Merchandising strategies and meets the customers’ expectations in quality, design, and functionality. This position requires close collaborative partnerships with Technical Design, Product Development, Merchandising, Sourcing, and Production.
Under the direction of the VP of Design and Senior Designer, design original artwork that has both consumer appeal and meet sales targets. Takes into consideration fabric capabilities, usage, margin targets, and salability of all artwork. Works closely with a Senior Designer while both designing, and communicating those designs to successfully translate relevant industry trends to the Weissman customer.
Trend and Market Knowledge:
Researches current artwork trends in partnership with VP of Design and Senior Designer to influence conceptual direction for both Dancewear & Recital/Costume businesses. Creates and inspires new ideas/concepts outside the current assortment. Studies competition and benchmarks relative to brand position and keeps Design informed with what is new & directional. Attends local dance recitals and competitions to analyze current dance trends.
Creates original artwork and assists with any additional CAD/graphic work for design team members. Communicates graphic work/original art to Pattern Makers, Technical Designers and Vendors. Understands vendor capabilities for print technique and fabric base limitations. Administer all aspects of the design process to manage the work-flow from initial design through production & pre-pro stages, for both in house and overseas demands.
Displays a high level of communication and presentation skills. Ability to communicate creative vision from concept to finished product and present new ideas and concepts effectively to upper management. Uses sound judgement; holds self and others accountable for their commitments and conduct. Ability to manage the work-flow process.
Analyzes sales and assortment along with competitor’s assortments, pricing, and catalog/web presentations. Collaborate with design and cross-functional partners to implement strategy
Collaboratively works with Product Development team to ensure that all products meet or exceed the customer’s needs and expectations.
Designs that consistently meet planned sales and margin goals.
Meets all internal design, merchandising, purchasing and marketing deadlines as planned
Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Textile Design or a related field
5 to 7 years of Print Design and Graphic experience, with a high level of graphic creative design talent preferably within the apparel space
In depth knowledge of Adobe design tools, strong fashion and color design aesthetic, and ability to create highly commercial concepts for the retail/dance space
Ability to spearhead and innovate new trends, as well as turn creative concepts into commercially viable art
Candidate must have strong organizational and interpersonal skills to meet seasonal deadlines
Strong aesthetic related to the Weissman brands and customer base
Understanding of garment construction, fit, fabric and industry resources
Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Cloud
Strong work ethic and ability and multitask
Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic, and collaborative team environment; flexible and adaptable to change
Must align in value system professionally and personally with the culture of Weissman
