Reports to: Director of Design

Position Summary: Weissman / Dancewear Solutions is a national Recital Costume/Dancewear catalog/web retailer and manufacturer that is experiencing rapid growth. The Senior Graphic Artist is responsible for the creation of original artwork that is highly creative, brand relevant, and trend appropriate for the Weissman customer. This individual protects the integrity of the brand by delivering product that fulfills the Merchandising strategies and meets the customers’ expectations in quality, design, and functionality. This position requires management of a small team as well as close collaborative partnerships with Design, Technical Design, Product Development, Merchandising, Sourcing, and Production.


Design: Strong ability to design highly creative and original artwork relevant to the Weissman customer.

Takes into consideration fabric capabilities, usage, margin targets, and salability of all artwork.

Understand garment construction, fit, fabric and printing techniques applicable to the apparel industry


Trend and Market Knowledge: Researches current artwork trends in partnership with Director of Design/Graphic Art Team.

Study competition relative to brand position to stay informed with what is new & direction

Technical Skills: Creates original artwork and assists with graphic art needs of the internal design team.

Understands internal/vendor capabilities for print techniques and fabric base limitations. (Dye-Sub, Vinyl Heat Press, DTG, Screen Printing)

Ability to operationalize original artwork across printing techniques. Dye-sub expertise considered a plus.

Ability to color match manage and approve strike offs. Knowledge of ErgoSoft RIP software, and/or EFI Reggiani printer a plus.

Leadership: Manages and mentor direct reports or assigned mentees and completes performance reviews for graphic design team.

Maintains work flow and balance throughout the graphic design department while training and mentoring graphic design team members.

Create strong cross-functional partnerships.

Communication: Ability to communicate creative vision from concept to finished product and present designs to Director of Design/Cross-Functional Teams.

Communicates graphic work/original art to Pattern Makers, Technical Designers and vendors both domestic and international

Ability to diplomatically give and received feedback on their own work as well as the work of their teammates.

Business Analytics: Analyzes sales and assortment along with competitor’s assortments, pricing, and catalog/web presentations.

Quality: Partner with Product Development and Product Assurance teams to ensure that all products meet or exceed the customer’s needs and expectations.

Expected Outcomes:

Financial: Designs that consistently meet planned sales and margin goals as well as customer needs.

Timelines: Create and manage internal processes as they relate to the Graphic Art team. Assesses current processes and productivity and suggests enhancements. Ensures adherence to all deadlines and calendar.

Manage internal calendars, workflow and deliverables.

Meet all internal design, merchandising, purchasing and marketing deadlines in both B to B and B to C businesses.


Successful introduction of new ideas, business opportunities and process efficiencies by confidently selling these ideas/processes internally while listening to and incorporating appropriate suggestions of management, peers and subordinates. Successful development and training of graphic design team members.


BS/BA in Graphic Design/Textile Design or a related field

7+ years of Graphic Design with an emphasis on apparel

3+ years in a Management Role – experience leading teams

Expert level in Adobe Creative Suite;

Clo 3D Experience
